The Mardi Gras Series was inspired by the years I lived in the French Quarter in New Orleans. Every Year I joined in the Mardi Gras parties and parades, including scrambling for Mardi Gras beads and trinkets thrown to spectators from the floats. At the beginning of 2005, before the Katrina destruction, I began thinking of those years and the crazy celebrations in the city. Each of the pictures is named for private clubs - like Comus, Momus, Bacchus and Rex. These clubs would create fabulous floats and parade through the French Quarter every night. The last night of Mardi Gras, it was the Rex parade that would wind through the Quarter and end the celebrations before the start of Lent.
